Our very own VP of Product, Ólafur Óskar Egilsson, and Business Development Manager, Isabel Moratiel were interviewed by Shannon Rosic of Medici at FinvoateFall 2019 in New York. At the event, they presented an innovative new way for people to offset their carbon footprint with ‘Giveback’.
Give back to the planet
In the interview, Ólafur and Isabel were fresh from their demonstration of ‘Giveback’. This is Meniga’s latest innovative product which enables banks and their customers to have a high social and ecological impact.
As Ólafur and Isabel state in the interview, this new feature is already up and running in Finland and Sweden where it has proven to be a big hit. Meniga has partnered with the United Nations Climate Change Initiative. Users of the Meniga Rewards app are able to pledge money earned with cashback rewards to high impact UN projects which are designed to reduce CO2 emissions.

“Around 20% of our users have opted for this feature and we just launched at the beginning of this month … About 800 tons of CO2 have been offset. That is about the footprint of about 160 global citizens over a span of a year.”
There is a growing concern in the banking community about how banks can be more socially responsible. Isabel and Ólafur emphasized Meniga’s intention to enable banks to release features for their end-users which enable them to benefit the planet.
Scale it up to the cloud
When asked about how Meniga can deliver this and other digital banking solutions at scale, Ólafur points out that both the APIs which Meniga delivers to its customers and the underlying digital banking platform are now available in the cloud.
“Meniga cloud service enables banks to work at a larger scale to delight and engage their customers”
